Biotechnology is the largest growing career field leading into 2016. Biotech is an emerging field of science that has problem solving applications for many of the world's problems from food shortages to water contamination. Overpoplulation to emerging diseases, form the controversial to just common sense science. This growing field is in need of trained workers resulting in 5% projected job growth in the sector for many years to come.

Biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products, or "any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use" (UN Convention on Biological Diversity, Art.

 

Some highlights of the program include: College credits-As many as 6 credits! 3 are URI BCH-190; Certifications-OSHA-are afforded several different types of placements tailored to their career aspirations; and PASA's Extended Learning Opportunities (2-3 classes), and a multitude of other extracurricular science programs.
